Who (h’HOO hoo hoo) is this newsletter for?

I have a lot of bird-curious family members and friends who have asked me for advice over the years—questions like, “Why isn’t my bird feeder attracting birds?” and “Here is an extremely grainy photo I took on my phone—WHAT BIRD IS THIS?”, so I started Owl My Children for them. I wanted a place where I could research interesting questions about birds and share some of my amateur bird photography, and I also wanted to have a regular writing commitment where I would be forced to share something every month. I am primarily a fiction writer, but over the course of the pandemic I had burrowed into a nice comfy hole and wouldn’t let anyone read my work before it was PERFECT—so this newsletter was a challenge I set for myself to stop screeching about possible rejection and start having fun.

If you want to learn random bird facts, you’re in the right place. Or maybe you don’t like birds, but you’re curious about a thirty-something’s journey into the weird world of adult hobbies. Or maybe you simply appreciate barred bad puns. You are welcome here!

Subscribe to Owl My Children to get full access to the monthly newsletter and publication archives. And please leave comments about your own bird experiences! I’d love to hear from you!

P.S. I have referenced four owls in the text above. Have you found them all??
