Are you familiar with the book "Parking Lot Birding: A Fun Guide to Discovering Birds in Texas" by Jennifer L. Bristol? I saw it at Book People in Austin and immediately thought of #ParkingLotTheory.

Omg I love that you saw this book out in the wild!! It came up in Google when I was doing research, but I tried to get it at my local library and they didn't have it! The description sounds great - I feel like they should make a book like this for every state. Also love the emphasis on accessibility. Maybe I should buy it, though I've never actually been to Texas, haha. Did you see any exciting birds while you were in Austin?

It looked like a great book and I agree that it'd be wonderful to have for every state. We did a lot of parking lot birding by default because of the Texas heat. I'd like to buy the book and come back to do a whole parking lot tour of the state. The birds are great in TX. We saw black-bellied whistling ducks and neotropic cormorants at The Ruby hotel in Round Rock (among other birds!), and scissor-tailed flycatchers in Cedar Park. We tried to find golden-cheeked warblers at Baker Sanctuary in Leander but we'll have to return again next year to spot those babes. I've had Stevie Nicks stuck in my head all week because we saw so many white-winged doves throughout the city.

Yessss I love a good hotel bird and Stevie Nicks reference! And scissor-tailed flycatchers would be so cool to see. A few of my friends have done birding trips to Texas, mostly in the Rio Grande Valley - it's definitely on my dream list of birding destinations!
